March 28, 2008 Dear Sir/Madam: I am pleased to write this letter of recommendation on the behalf of Nick Calvert, ABR. Mr. Calvert was our real estate agent for the purchase of our first single family home this past year and became a friend while providing expert guidance. My husband and I are both physicians and found homebuying and negotiating to be subjects with which we had very little experience. We were able to self-educate ourselves to some extent but really found that having the expertise of a very knowledgable and savvy real estate agent and negotiator to be the key to success. Mr. Calvert is a very bright businessman with a vast and varied wealth of business experience. He has excellent marketing strategies and a fabulous website, which is how we found him in the first place. Using his website (which is the best I have seen to date) my husband and I were able to educate ourselves about the Hampton Roads real estate market and view and virtually tour over 1000 homes in the area months before we ever moved from Washington, D.C. This allowed us to develop very specific qualifications for what we needed and desired in a home before our first actual house hunt. Mr. Calvert listened carefully to what we needed and had helpful suggestions about specifications that could be more flexible. In short, he provided expert assistance through the home buying process and taught us some master negotiator skills that allowed us to find and buy the house of our dreams. He is also very personable and extremely entertaining throughout the entire process! As a physician, I believe that we spend so much time learning about medicine that an understanding of business and financial management is rudimentary at best. In regards to money management, physicians as a group are at considerable disadvantage compared with other highly trained professionals. I believe that Mr. Calvert can provide valuable information about home ownership to young doctors in training in a highly engaging format that will help fill these knowledge gaps and provide a superb reference for future home buying. Please feel free to contact us with any further questions. Thank you. Sincerely, Bethany B. Tan, M.D. Sigmund B. Tan, D.O.
April 16, 2008 Dear prospective home buyer, As you probably know, the many decisions you'll face in buying a home can be daunting. Not the least of which is the selection of a real estate agent. We started our home search on the Web and stumbled on www.virginiabeachhousehunter.com, a great site for getting informed and reviewing current listings. Luckily, in finding that site we also found a great agent in Nick Calvert. We began our home search more than a year before finishing residency. So when we came across homes we were interested in, it was much too early for us to pursue them. We hadn't even met with a loan officer when Nick began taking us to see properties. He knew we weren't ready to buy, and still he was happy to spend time showing us around. He repeated over and again that he didn't mind these early home visits and said it was one effective way to get to know the various neighborhoods at the Beach. During that year, we also corresponded regularly with Nick by email. If we stopped searching for homes or contacting Nick for a month or so, he would get back in touch žu never to pressure us but simply to see if there was anything we needed. Turns out, Nick used these early visits and conversations to really learn our likes and dislikes. He's a great listener, and he commits everything to memory. This was our third home purchase but the very first time an agent paid attention to what we said. That meant Nick never wasted our time showing homes we didn't want. If anything, we wasted his as we tried a few times to broaden our options. Nick was always willing and gracious, and he never made us feel like a bother. But he gently reminded us of the things we really wanted in a home and got our search back on track. When it approached crunch time for us to find the right home, Nick endured a marathon weekend in which we asked to visit about 35 homes. Still he never grumbled. In fact, he made it fun and informative. Nick's a wealth of all sorts of knowledge. He even told us which soccer league our kids should join. When our insurer couldn't write a policy on the home without knowing its exact distance to the ocean, Nick drove to the house (we were still out of town) and measured the distance himself! He trudged through the sand for us. Amazing. That for us sums up Nick's attitude toward service: He'll do anything he can for customers, and he'll do it with enthusiasm. By the end of this process, Nick felt like an old friend. He always had our interests at heart. When we had trouble with our builder performing warranty work eight months after closing, Nick pressured the builder (who was also our seller) to do the work quickly and correctly. Still to this day Nick checks in with us often to see how everything is going. We would feel comfortable sending our closest and most demanding friends Nick's way. He's one of the few remaining service-industry professionals who still understands the meaning of service. He made home buying for us a lot less daunting. In fact, Nick made some of the worst parts of the process easy. We hope you'll let him do the same for you. Sincerely, Dr. and Mrs. Michael J. Meddows
I will work hard for you!
